Classic family route

Length: 6.5 KM

Level of difficulty: Easy

Rental location: Khan Merhav Am

The classic route for families that want to experience cycling.

route description:

We will leave the khan through the small gate next to the local grocery store, and ride carefully down the asphalt road. At the first turn we will turn left, and after about 200 m the asphalt will end, and we will leave the settlement to the Haro’a stream. We will go down to Assaf’s vineyard, we will pass through the gate of the vineyard and from there we will continue along the southern fence of the vineyard. Immediately after that we will reach a path junction at the edge of the vineyard and turn towards the southeast with Mount ‘Katum’ in front of us. After another 150 m we will turn left towards the north and ride parallel to the “Arov” columns of the settlement. We will go up to a white hill and from there we will go down towards the northwest. We will go up another small hill again and go down at a moderate descent to a small and hidden wadi with ancient terraces that were used by the Nabataeas for agriculture. From there, we will continue up a short ascent to an overnight parking lot with a young carob tree and after a short ascent we will descend towards the gravel stream (we will reach the end of the “Arov Shabbat” area of the settlement). Here we will turn east and after about 400 m we will reach the ‘Hatzaz pits’ (ancient water pits from the Nabatean period). After visiting and resting in the pits we will return to the track and continue with the stream in a downward trend back to the Merhav Am. We will carefully cross the access road of the settlement and surround it from the west. Just before we cross Haro’a stream we turn left towards the northeast and enter the settlement and climb back to the khan.
